Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
