Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
