Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
