Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
