Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
