Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
