Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While participating in online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
