Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players in the world. While betting on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be found participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
