Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
